Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Flipside, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the service. These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Flipside.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account and use Flipside. If you are between the ages of 13 and 17 (or under the age of majority in your jurisdiction), your parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms on your behalf before you use the service. By allowing a minor to use Flipside, the parent or guardian represents that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, and they accept responsibility for the minor's use of the service.

For users in the European Economic Area, the minimum age may be higher (up to 16) depending on your country's age of digital consent under the GDPR. Users below the applicable age of digital consent in their country must have parental or guardian consent to use Flipside.

We reserve the right to request verification of your age at any time and to terminate accounts that do not meet these requirements.

3. Account Responsibilities

When you create an account with Flipside, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete registration information
  • Keep your login credentials secure and confidential
  • Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not you authorized it
  • Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Flipside only for its intended purpose — learning and studying vocabulary. You may not:

  • Upload content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, or offensive
  • Attempt to access, modify, or delete another user's data or account
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or place an undue burden on the service or its underlying infrastructure
  • Use automated systems, bots, scrapers, or similar tools to access or extract data from the service without our express written permission
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the service

5. User-Generated Content

You retain full ownership of the flashcard decks, cards, and other content you create on Flipside. By using the service, you grant Flipside a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you.

You may delete any of your content at any time. When you delete content, it will be removed from our active systems. If you delete your account, all associated content will be permanently removed within 30 days.

6. Intellectual Property

The Flipside name, logo, visual design, and all associated branding are the intellectual property of Flipside. You may not use our branding without prior written permission.

Dictionary data is sourced from the National Institute of Korean Language and other publicly licensed sources, and is subject to their respective terms of use.

7. Service Availability

We strive to keep Flipside available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access to the service. From time to time, we may need to perform maintenance, deploy updates, or address issues that temporarily affect availability.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature or aspect of the service. Where feasible, we will provide advance notice of significant changes.

8. Limitation of Liability

Flipside is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Flipside shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or interruption of service, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service.

While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, we are not responsible for data loss that occurs due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

9. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the settings page. Upon deletion, all of your data will be permanently removed within 30 days.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms of Service. If your account is terminated for a violation, you will be notified of the reason. We may also remove content that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from or relating to these terms or your use of Flipside shall be resolved in accordance with applicable dispute resolution procedures.

11. Changes to Terms

We may revise these Terms of Service from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Flipside after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you in advance.
