Flipside is a flashcard application designed to help English speakers learn Korean vocabulary and phrases. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our service. By using Flipside, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Account Information

  • Email address (used for authentication and essential communications)
  • Full name (used for your profile display)
  • Password (securely hashed — we never store or have access to your plain-text password)

Study Data

  • Flashcard decks you create, including titles, descriptions, and categories
  • Card content (front text, back content, photos)
  • Study progress and memorization states (ungraded, red, yellow, green)

Usage Data

  • Page views and feature usage, collected via Firebase Analytics only with your explicit consent
  • Browser type and operating system (collected via analytics when consent is granted)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Flipside service
  • Track and display your study progress across decks and cards
  • Improve the app experience based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns
  • Send essential emails such as account verification and password reset requests

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to delivering and improving the Flipside service.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Supabase, a hosted PostgreSQL infrastructure with enterprise-grade security. We take the following measures to protect your information:

  • Passwords are cryptographically hashed and never stored in plain text
  • Row-level security (RLS) policies ensure that each user can only access their own data
  • All data transmission between your device and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS
  • Database backups are maintained to prevent data loss

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Flipside:

  • Supabase — database hosting and user authentication
  • Firebase — web hosting and analytics (analytics only with your consent)

These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle data. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

6. Cookies & Tracking

Flipside uses a minimal set of cookies to operate:

  • Essential cookies are used to maintain your authentication session. These are required for the service to function and cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies are used by Firebase Analytics to collect usage data. These cookies are only initialized after you provide explicit consent via our cookie consent banner.

You can withdraw your consent for analytics cookies at any time through the cookie settings on our site.

7. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — You can view all of your personal data within the app at any time, including your profile information, decks, and cards.
  • Export — You can export your data, including all decks and cards you have created.
  • Deletion — You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the settings page.
  • Withdraw consent — You can withdraw your consent for analytics tracking at any time without affecting your use of the service.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you choose to delete your account, all of your personal data — including your profile, decks, cards, and study progress — will be permanently removed from our systems within 30 days of your deletion request.

9. Children's Privacy

Flipside is open to users aged 13 and older. Users between the ages of 13 and 17 may use Flipside only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. By allowing a minor to use Flipside, the parent or guardian agrees to this Privacy Policy on the minor's behalf and assumes responsibility for the minor's use of the service.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at fireflo.app@gmail.com.

For users in the European Economic Area, the minimum age may be higher (up to 16) depending on your country's age of digital consent under the GDPR. Users below the applicable age of digital consent in their country must have parental or guardian consent to use Flipside.

Parents and guardians may contact us at any time to review, correct, or request deletion of their child's personal data by emailing fireflo.app@gmail.com.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons.
